Unfair attack on public education
Unfair attack on public education
Cal Thomas’s recent dia- tribe on education is much like The Daily Planet giving Jimmy Olson the opportunity to write a front-page exclusive.
Forward looking educators like William Holmes McGuffey and Republicans like Abe Lincoln knew the value of a good, public education for America’s children. They would be enraged at today’s ignorant conservatives, activist judges, and money-hungry Big Business operatives who believe that making a profit in providing education to the young people of America is perfectly respectable. They have a distinct advantage since they are not bound to the same standards placed on the Ohio’s boards of education and teachers. Education began its rapid decline when judges permitted private enterprise to enter the field of education and all the charter schools exploded across the country. Would charter schools perform to the “high level of education” they provide if they were required to perform under the exact same mandates placed upon the states’ public school systems?
Charter advocates like Sen. George Voinovich, who said he wanted to be Ohio’s education governor, have failed the young people of Ohio and America. They have made our future leaders pawns in the game of politics.
Perhaps Stan Boney could have a TV show locally that pits charter schools against public schools at different grade levels to judge the level of education really being provided by each system.

Cat Ladies Society has a fan
I am a recent volunteer at The Cat Ladies Society. I brought a cat there that needed a good home. He has since been adopted. I spent my time cleaning cages and caring for the cats. I am an eye witness to the good treatment these cats received.
These cats were given medical care, food , water and a warm, dry place to live in. The ill cats were always kept in a separate room. The Cat Ladies Society is a great service to our Valley — taking these unwanted and abused animals and giving them shelter, medical care, a safe haven and love.
The only cruelty I see is by the organization who ripped them from this wonderful place and murdered them! I was horrified by this terrible injustice done to these defenseless animals! Who are the real criminals here?
