Poland girls golf team qualifies for state meet

CANTON
Poland placed second in the girls Div. II district golf tournament Tuesday, held at Tam O’Shanter, and will advance to the state meet.
Hathaway Brown won the event with a score of 345 while Poland (348) and Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (354) placed second and third.
All three will play in next week’s state meet at Ohio State’s Gray Course.
NDCL is the defending state champion.
Allison Mitzel of Poland was the medalist with a 3-over 75 while Bulldog Maria Mancini was second with a 76.
Also for Poland, Giana DiBenedetto had a 95, Melinda Hannon a 102 and Christine Bilas shot 104.
Hubbard placed sixth with a 398.
Weaver advances
RAVENNA
Mitch Weaver of Champion High shot 75 to place third in the Div. II boys district golf tournament at Windmill Lakes Golf Course.
Weaver will advance to the state meet on the Ohio State Scarlet Course, Oct. 15-16.
The top three teams and the top three individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to state play.
Canton Central Catholic won the team title with a 307, trailed by University School (315) and Canal Fulton Northwest (316).
Cardinal Mooney, Champion, Poland and Ursuline had scores of 330, 333, 338 and 358 respectively.
Grant Weaver of Waynedale won the individual title with a 70 while Jacob Forsythe of CVCA was second with a 72.
Other individual players from the area were Mark Wyss, Salem, 80; Alex Mockie, Struthers, 84; Justin Hallapy, Hubbard, 85; and Evan Standohar, Girard, 87.
