RI firefighters save 18-foot snake in burning home
EAST GREENWICH, R.I.
Firefighters often have to rescue people from burning homes, sometimes even a dog or cat.
But the 18-foot Bermese python that firefighters had to drag out of a burning Rhode Island home just after midnight Monday may have been a first.
Acting Chief Peter Henrikson tells The Providence Journal that it took two firefighters to carry out the python with a diameter like a “Frisbee” in the middle.
The home’s sole occupant managed to escape on his own and brought out his two dogs and a cat.
He says it appears the fire started where the pipe of a wood stove met the wall. The East Greenwich house was condemned.

Joyriders in Washington state stole six golf carts and tore up the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club — but were thoughtful enough to put the carts back in the storage shed.

Police: Pa. man assaulted haunted-hayride workers
OLYPHANT, Pa.
A northeastern Pennsylvania man is behind bars after a drunken assault of workers at a Halloween attraction.
Police in Scott Township say 42-year-old William Gardner punched one worker, kicked another and ripped the mask off a third during a hayride at the Reaper’s Revenge attraction Sunday night.
Authorities say Gardner became verbally and physically abusive toward staff, punching a 16-year-old boy in the face and twice kicking an 18-year-old man in the chest. Police were called for a report of a disorderly man and were waiting for Gardner when the ride was over.
Gardner is in Lackawanna County Prison on $10,000 bail. He is charged with three counts of simple assault and other charges. It was not clear if Gardner had an attorney.
