Collection for cancer patient stolen

new castle, Pa.

Police are still looking for leads on a group of people suspected in the theft of $11,000 from an office at a restaurant in the city.

The money, in a bag in an office at China Banquet on Jefferson Street, was a collection for a cancer patient who is a relative of the owner’s, said New Castle Police Chief Tom Sansone.

It was stolen Friday by a group of several men and women. The women were wearing Spanish-style costumes and the group spoke Spanish, Sansone said.

He said the group came to the counter and ordered a large amount of food. Half of it was ready when one of the men went to the restroom, came back and said forget about the rest of it, Sansone said.

Sansone said they paid for the food and left.

Sansone said the office was unlocked, though the door was closed.
