Child held at gunpoint

YOUNGSTOWN

Police continue investigating a home invasion and robbery in which a man, woman and 4-year-old child were held at gunpoint on the city’s West Side.

According to police, a 40-year-old Hartzell Avenue man was leaving his home to go to a nearby store Friday when he was pushed back inside by three armed men wearing bandannas and safety goggles. The men held guns on the man, his girlfriend and their 4-year-old child while demanding money.

Reports say the man handed the robbers $60, but the trio went through the girlfriend’s purse and took $1,200. The men threatened to kill the family if police were called before they ran off. The incident was not reported to police until Monday.

Cancer collection stolen

new castle, Pa.

Police are still looking for leads on a group of people suspected in the theft of $11,000 from an office at a restaurant in the city.

The money, in a bag in an office at China Banquet on Jefferson Street, was a collection for a cancer patient who is a relative of the owner’s, said New Castle Police Chief Tom Sansone.

It was stolen Friday by a group of several men and women. The women were wearing Spanish-style costumes and the group spoke Spanish, Sansone said.

He said the group came to the counter and ordered a large amount of food. Half of it was ready when one of the men went to the restroom, came back and said forget about the rest of it, Sansone said.

Sansone said they paid for the food and left.

Sansone said the office was unlocked, though the door was closed.
