Timko, Fait, Canfield girls advance

VIENNA

Three of the golfers shooting in the 70s at Candywood during Monday’s Division I boys sectional were from top-finisher Aurora. Canfield’s Boo Timko and Boardman’s Jake Fait were two others.

Aurora’s Mitch Johnson was medalist with 71, while Timko (73), Hudson’s Brian Ruther (74) and Fait (78) advanced despite being on non-qualifying teams.

Aurora (309), Twinsburg (309), Walsh Jesuit (309) and Stow (316) were the top four advancing to the district.

Girls

CORTLAND

Annie McGlone carded 84 to lead Canfield, which finished second behind Kenston in the NEO Div. I girls sectional golf tournament at Tamer Win.

The top two teams, plus third-place Mentor and fourth-place Willoughby South advance to the district at The Legends of Massillon on Oct. 12.

Kenston tallied 351, Canfield 366, Mentor 383, Willoughby South 390.

Schools that didn’t advance included: Boardman (405), Fitch (409), Niles (422), and Howland (441).

Howland’s Haleigh Guerrero and Rachel Williamson along with Bedford’s Tasita Garcia and Lakeside’s Krista Johnston were individuals advancing. Garcia’s round was 79, Guerrero and Johnson had 90s and Williamson carded 93.

McGlone’s teammates were: Kelly Fleming (90) and Kayla Cerimele (94) and Michele Whiteleather (98) and Olivia DeMartino (100).
