The Christina House Domestic Violence Program with Ozer Ministries will have its annual Balloon Launch for Domestic Violence Awareness Month at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at its offices at 115 E. Washington St. After a short program, purple balloons will be released to remember victims and honor survivors of family violence For more information, call 330-420-0036.
Walk for police dog
BOARDMAN
PETCO will have a pet walk Saturday to benefit the Boardman police-dog unit.
Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the walk starts at noon at PETCO, 317 Boardman-Poland Road, near the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and Southern Boulevard.
Snacks will be served after the walk, and a silent auction is planned.

Free concert
POLAND
The high school wind ensemble will perform a free pops concert Wednesday.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Poland Seminary High School, 3199 Dobbins Road.
The band will perform music from television, movies and musicals, and will feature 2004 PSHS alumnus Kyle Ruth on trumpet.
Fire prevention
BOARDMAN
The fire department and local firefighters union will promote “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!” as the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week Oct. 3-9.
The week will culminate at the main fire station at 136 Boardman-Poland Road with Fire Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9.
The fire department will perform a live burn demonstration, fire extinguisher training, jaws of life demonstrations and fire safety house tours. A Bounce-A-Round and giant fire truck slide also will be available.
