“Masterpiece Mystery!” (9 p.m., PBS): “Masterpiece Mystery!” launches a new set of episodes starring Kenneth Branagh as Swedish detective Kurt Wallander. The opener has our hero looking into a case of torture and murder in an isolated farmhouse.

“CSI: MIAMI” (10 P.M., CBS): Last season’s cliff-hanger on “CSI: Miami” left most of the team unconscious on the floor after a serial killer poisoned the crime lab. As the new season unfolds, someone won’t recover.

Comedy show, open-mic night

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Comedy Syndicate will present a free comedy show and open-mic night at the Lemon Grove, 122 W. Federal St., at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Stand-up acts and sketch comedy will be featured, and budding comedians will have the chance to perform.

Scheduled are Dave Biscella, Jim Cibella, Eric Cribley, Jason Delfosse, Shane Herman, Jason Howell, Matt Liller and Ric Panning, as well as the Reverse Cowboy sketch-comedy troupe.

Afternoon of Arts at Davis YMCA

BOARDMAN

The Davis Family YMCA will have An Afternoon of the Arts from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, as part of National Y Arts Week.

The free event will feature an art exhibit, dance performances, poetry readings, live music, artists-at-work, kids’ crafts and light refreshments. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the new art studio and other facilities.

In conjunction with the event, footprint artist Suzanne Gray is introducing a collaborative project called Cathartic Heeling.
