An excellent rating on the state report card doesn’t mean a school district can sit back and relax, basking in the success of its students and staff.

It’s a constant process to try to improve or maintain those positive results.

Teacher and administrators must mine the data, assessing what worked and tweaking what needs improvement.

Struthers saw an excellent rating for the third consecutive year on state report cards released in August. The district applied for waiver days — days when teachers meet but school isn’t in session — to work on an instructional plan.

One of those days was last week. Superintendent Robert Rostan told teachers and administrators that the day would begin with close examination of the district and content data.

“We will establish goals, determined by the data, to meet the district goal of increased achievement and academic growth for all students,” he said.

The sessions were led by principals and representatives of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.

“We’re looking at data K-12,” said Pete Pirone, middle school principal.
