Millerleile and Smith set for Bowling HOF

The Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association will hold its achievement awards dinner and Hall of Fame induction tonight at Lucianno’s Cafe & Banquet Center, 1739 S. Raccoon Rd.
Gerry Millerleile will be inducted for achievement and meritorious service, and Elaine Smith will be inducted as a Star of Yesteryear.
The association also will recognize the accomplishments of outstanding women bowlers from the 2009-10 season.
Social hour begins at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6:30.
Smith
Smith has been a Youngstown Women’s Bowling Association member for 23 years with highest average of 190, high game of 279 and highest three-game series of 683. Smith also had numerous 250-plus games and 600 series.
She bowled in many YWBA city tournaments and Ohio Women’s Bowling Association state tournaments, as well as events in Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York.
She participated in several BPA all-star eliminations, finishing second in 1970. She also won the WJAN-TV singles handicap tournament in 1968.
In 1970, Smith won the Brannan’s Spring Classic scratch championship in McKees Rocks, Pa., with a score of 1,017.
In the Ladies BPA all-star traveling league, she had high average of 179 in 1972 and 184 in 1973.
In 1982, she won the city tournament’s singles actual event with 623.
She was sergeant-at-arms of the Colonial Trio League for many years.
Millerleile
Millerleile is a 53-year member of the YWBA with highest average of 165, high game of 235 and highest three-game series of 585.
She bowled in more than 20 city tournaments and 16 Ohio Women’s Bowling Association tournaments and one national tournament.
In 1991, Millerleile’s team, the Eaglettes, won the YWBA city tournament team handicap event with a score of 3,271. Teammates were Sue Matovina, Wendy Mancini, Marcia Carano and Wendy Harrison.
In 1997, her Family Practice Physicians team rolled 3,223 to win the city tournament’s team handicap event. Teammates were Theresa Zitnik, Corinne Miller, Sue Matovina and Tammy Baker.
In 2006, Millerleile was the Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association Officers Tournament champion with a 668 handicap series.
In 2007, she was the association’s senior tournament AA division champ with 609 handicap.
She was secretary of the Sunday Nite Mixed League at Bell-Wick Bowl for 25 years and secretary of the Saturday Nite Mixed and Gadabouts for five years.
In 2000, she was the YWBA secretary of the year.
Millerleile was an eight-year director in the association and member emeritus since 2002. She also served on numerous committees and as chairperson of the Youngstown Mixed Doubles Tournament.
