A 43-yard TD pass from Cody Kirby to Jermaine Saffold with 3:33 left has given Missouri State a 35-25 lead over Youngstown State on Saturday at Plaster Field.
On a third-and-13 at the YSU 43, Kirby rolled right and absorbed a vicious hit by Torrance Nicholson, lofting a perfect pass to Saffold in the end zone after he had gotten two steps behind the coverage.
Jordan Thompson's 4-yard TD run followed by a conversion run by QB Kurt Hess cut the Penguins' deficit to 28-25 with 7:47 left. It was YSU's first points since taking a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.
A 22-yard touchdown run by Chris Douglas with 11:37 left gave Missouri State a 28-25 lead.
After a failed fourth-and-1 attempt by the Penguins, Missouri State drove 56 yards to solidify its lead.
