Vigil today from St. Dom's will honor murder victims

YOUNGSTOWN

A South Side vigil today aims to protect the elderly from crime.

The vigil, scheduled in response to recent violent crimes, is co-sponsored by the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighbors and the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative. It will begin at 6 p.m. outside St. Dominic Church at 77 E. Lucius Ave. and will follow the path of shooting victims Thomas and Jacqueline Repchic.

The event also will commemorate the murder of Angeline Fimognari, who was shot and killed in the St. Dominic parking lot in January and Vivian Martin who was strangled to death last week on the East Side.

Youngstown police Chief Jimmy Hughes, Detective Charles Swanson, 6th Ward Councilwoman Janet Tarpley, ACTION Executive Director Rose Carter, and MVOC organizer Phil Kidd will attend.
