BGMS eighth-graders remain undefeated
The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade volleyball team defeated Springfield 25-17, 25-13.
Katie Davis had 12 aces and three digs. Amanda Lipke had nine kills, three aces and one dig.
Hope Landers had two aces, two kills and two digs. Haley Landers had two aces and one dig. Jessica Fox had two kills and Kelsie Stutz had one ace and one dig.
The seventh grade also defeated Springfield 25-18, 25-22.
Krista Johnson had five aces and two kills. Dara Genovese had five aces and one kill. Katie Platt had four assists and one kill. Marisa Hanna had three assists and one kill. Andrea Gardner had two aces and two kills.
Boardman soccer team nets eight
The Boardman boys soccer team got eight goals and a 8-1 win against Canton McKinley Sept. 21.
Christian Silvestri led the team with two goals, one unassisted and one assisted by teammate Nico Dilanni, who also scored a goal. Other team scorers were Zaire Morrison, Matt Horvatich, Cameron Broyles, Fabio Bassil and Alex Thomas. Anthony Caluatti had two saves for goal.
The junior varsity team tied visiting Erie McDowell High School Sept. 23.
Spartans sweep GlenOak
The visiting Spartans girls tennis team defeated Glenoak 5-0 Sept. 21. In singles play, Lindsay Kirkham-Olsen defeated Hannah Arvidson in two 6-4 sets. Arina Kravitz shut out Cassie Conley with two 6-0 sets. Michelle Kordupel also won her match with two 6-0 sets. In doubles play, Rachel Cantanzriti and Nicole Pavlansky won their match 6-2 and 6-1. Kelly Kordupel and Jen Moore defeated Sadie Shaheen and Alicia Kostolich 6-0 and 6-2.
Tennis team serves Ursuline a loss
The Boardman girls tennis team dominated Ursuline in its 5-0 win Sept. 23.
In singles play, Lindsay Kirkham-Olson defeated Emily Cigollie and Arina Kravitz defeated Paige Larney in two 6-0 sets. Michelle Kordupel defeated her opponent Gia Cappabianco 6-1 and 6-0.
In doubles play, the Spartan team of Rachel Cantanzriti and Nicole Pavlansky won in 6-1 and 6-4 sets against Christine Kerrigan and Lauren Rosnisky and Kelly Kordupel and Jen Moore won in two 6-0 sets against Sammy Sharp and Danielle Carasone.
Glenwood volleyball
The BGMS eighth-grade volleyball team defeated AMS Red in two games, 25-20 and 25-17.
Amanda Lipke had six aces and six kills. Katie Davis had eight assists, two kills and one ace. Hope Landers had four aces, three digs and two kills. Jessica Fox had four kills.
The seventh grade defeated AMS Red, 25-15 and 25-10.
Krista Johnson had 13 aces, four kills and one dig. Dara Genovese had five assists. Caitlynn Conner had four aces. Katie Platt had three assists and one ace.
Glenwood sweeps Center
The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade volleyball team improved to 5-0 with a 25-21, 25-15 victory over rival Boardman Center Sept. 22.
Amanda Lipke had seven kills, one ace, one assist and one block, while Hope Landers had seven kills, one ace and one dig. Amanda Moss added two kills, one dig and one assist. Katie Davis had 10 assists and one kill.
The seventh-grade squad (4-1) defeated Center 25-16, 25-15. Krista Johnson had 12 aces and four kills. Dara Genovese had two aces and two assists. Kaite Plat had two assists and one dig.
The Boardman girls varsity soccer team lost to Niles 4-3 Sept. 18.
Nikki Hillard scored all three goals for the Spartans.
The girls came back from their loss against Niles to defeat Ursuline 8-0 Sept. 20.
Heather Hughes scored six goals and Nikki Hillard scored two. Missy DeMarinis and Kayleigh Huck had three assists. Hailey Dickey and Danielle Petrus each had one. Goalie Teryn Ross had one save.
The Spartans also defeated Canton McKinley Sept. 22 by a score of 7-0.
Nikki Hillard had three goals, Heather Hughes scored two, Missy DeMarinis and Jenna Kuczek each scored a goal.
Hailey Dickey and Danielle Petrus had two assists, while Kayleigh Huck and Briana Harris each had one.
Teryn Ross had five saves in goal.
Cross country takes second at Suburban
Boardman’s Mark Hadley raced to a top-10 finish, outpacing more than 300 competitors, to lead Boardman High School to a second-place finish at the Suburban League Championship Meet Sept. 14 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Boardman finished behind state power McDonald 62-100, however the Spartans did capture the regular season crown.
The Spartans placed three runners in the top 12, with Hadley’s eighth overall time of 18:04, senior Eddie Adu-Poku placing 11th in 18:12 and freshman Alan Burns capturing 12th in 18:20.
