Poland schools foundation to honor educators for 2010
Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence has selected recipients for the 2010 Educator and Alumnus of the Year awards.
The alumnus of the year honor has been awarded to J. Paul Good from the Class of 1948. Good served on the Mahoning County School Board for 34 years and was on the committee that led to the consolidation of North Lima and Greenford schools into the South Range School District.
Good was also appointed to the Mahoning County Career and Technical governing board, serving 34 years. Additionally, Good has been active in the Boardman Kiwanis for 50 years, publishing a weekly bulletin for all members.
He also held the position of Executive Director for Agricultural Conservation and Service, USDA
Mahoning-Columbiana Counties for 28 years. Good was nominated by his daughter, Charlotte Good, also a teacher.
The educator of the year honor has been awarded to Larry M. Bartos.
Bartos graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s in English and Speech Education. He later obtained a master’s degree in speech education from Kent State University.
Bartos started the speech team at the Poland High School. During his tenure at Poland, Bartos has taught Speech and numerous English classes, with British Literature and Drama being his favorites. Bartos has also taught part time in the Communications Department at Youngstown State University.
He has previously been awarded the Poland Education Association Teacher of the Year Award, as well as the Sallie Mae Educator Award for the State of Ohio.
He was nominated by Barbara Stacy.
Good and Bartos will be honored at the 18th annual PSFEE Banquet at The Lake Club Oct. 19.
