Teens in high school in the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown may attend the biennial Diocesan Youth Convention from 10:15 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. Nov. 17 at St. Michael Church and Family Life Center.

About 400 teens and chaperones from throughout the six-county diocese will participate in this event sponsored by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and supported in part by the Bishop’s Appeal.

This one-day event celebrates the gifts of young people and assists them in learning, sharing and practicing their faith.

Activities will include Mass with Bishop George V. Murry and a keynote address by Mike Norman, a youth leader in Los Angeles.

There also will be workshops and small-group activity sessions that will provide hands-on learning and prayer experiences.

Norman is an associate director for the Office of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and has been working with youths for about 20 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry. He has a master’s in pastoral theology from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Teens must attend as part of a parish or school group and should contact their parish youth minister or Catholic high- school campus minister to register.

Materials are available on the diocesan website at www.doy.org/offices_edu youth_convention.asp.

Registration deadline is Oct. 15. The cost is $30 and includes an event T-shirt, meals, materials and all sessions.
