Who said a dollar can’t buy anything anymore?
The Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) sponsored a book sale at the Poland library and raised $3,985.
More than 7,500 books were for sale ranging in prices from 25 cents to $1, including genres such as science fiction, gardening, nonfiction and children’s books.
The two-day event was held Sept. 24-25 from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. WFMJ Today’s Mark Monstrolo and Scott Schneider greeted book sale customers on its opening day and hosted the noon news live from from the sale.
Proceeds from the sale went to the Friends of the PLYMC who support the library’s children’s programs and the levy campaign. Books left over from the sale are available for purchase from the Friends’ used bookstore located in the Poland library.
Friends of the PLYMC member Janet Lowe said the book sale would not have turned out as well as it did if it were not for the help of the community. All books included in the sale were donated through the WFMJ book drive that was held in July.
“We really need to thank the public for what they donated because it helped the drive and book sale be a real success,” she said.
