Fire-safety tips
In 2010, 92 people have died in house fires in Ohio, according to Ohio state fire marshal. This is one reason why the Cardinal Joint Fire District purchased a digital fire-safety training trailer through a FEMA Fire Act Grant to help educate residents on how to use a fire extinguisher.
On average, an unused fire extinguisher should be replaced every 10 years.
Fire extinguishers should be flipped once each year to shake up the materials inside.
When using a fire extinguisher, stand 6 feet from the fire source and move the hose side to side at the flame.
Always stand with your back to the door to avoid getting trapped by the fire.
“PASS” stands for pull, aim, squeeze and sweep.
Opening an oven that’s on fire from the inside will cause the flames to spread. Instead turn the power off, killing the heat source, and let the flames die down before trying to remove the oven’s contents.
