The Evangelization and Catechesis Conference addresses the question “It’s Sunday: Where are Your Parishioners?” The Diocese of Youngstown Office of Religious Education will sponsor the conference from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at St. Michael Family Life Center, 300 N. Broad St.

The Rev. Frank Desiano will present the keynote address on “Parish and Mission: The Missionary Foundation of Parish Life.”

Bishop George V. Murry will preside at morning prayer with music by Conjunto Rique ±a.

Breakout sessions include evangelization workshops by Father Desiano and other workshops on creative catechetical methods, mission education, parish council formation and the Diocese of Youngstown Pastoral Plan.

Father DeSiano is president of the Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association in Washington, D.C.

The fee is $30 and includes lunch, morning refreshments and sessions. Early registration by Monday is $25. Participants are eligible for up to five hours of religious education certification credit. Catholic school teachers employed by the diocese may be eligible to earn professional development credit for state of Ohio certification.

Pastoral celebration

Pastors Kenny and Dione Eldridge, founders of Fellowship Tabernacle Christian Center Church, 2139 Market St., will be honored at the sixth pastoral celebration.

Guest speakers will be Pastor Kenneth Donaldson from Rising Star Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Thursday, Pastor Caleb Clinkscale of Crown of Life at 7 p.m. Friday and Pastor Austin Shaw of Community Church of God in Christ at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Senior Pastor Kenny Eldridge is known for his musical contributions. He is a songwriter, keyboardist and producer and has traveled throughout the United States and Europe playing gospel music. He has several CDs to his credit, each of which has charted on the Billboard Top 40. He also recorded a commercial for Subway.

Pastor Dione is a licensed minister and assists her husband in the daily operations of the ministry.

Concert at church

God’s Country of Perry, Ohio, a recording band of six that plays and sings a unique mixture of country and bluegrass Gospel music, will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren-Meadville Road.

Founder returns

Dr. Paul Coleman, founder of Christ Church Presbyterian, 1933 Canfield Road, will return to conduct a service at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 10. He founded the church in 1952.

Pastor retiring

The Rev. James F. Zingale, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Hall Ave., will be recognized at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Leading the rite of retirement at the close of the service will be Mary Ann Schwabe, representing the Northeast Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

A dinner honoring the Rev. Mr. Zingale’s service to Grace and his former churches will be after the service. He is retiring after nine years at the church.

He guided the congregation in several building projects, including the new roof, new parking lot and forthcoming renovations to the front canopy and replacement of all the church doors. He has been a volunteer chaplain for Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley and an officer in Trumbull Area Lutheran Coalition, and an organizer in local disaster- relief efforts.

New ministry

A new nondenominational ministry, Righteousness Being Restored, will conduct services at 10 a.m. Sundays and youth group at 7 p.m. Mondays in the Family Enrichment Center, Wedgewood Plaza. Bonnie Verdinek is lead pastor, and Daniel Verdinek is associate/youth pastor. The first service will be this weekend.

Priest assignments

Bishop George V. Murry has appointed two priests to new assignments.

The Rev. Robert Edwards was named pastor of St. Paul Church in Salem and administrator of St. Patrick Church in Leetonia. Monsignor Kenneth Miller was named pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown.

Assignments are effective Sunday.

Father Edwards was ordained June 6, 1981, after completing seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. He served as associate pastor at St. John Church in Canton, St. Joseph Church in Alliance and St. Christine Church. His most-recent assignment was as pastor of St. George Church in Lisbon and St. Agatha Mission in West Point. He also served on the diocesan Priests’ Council and diocesan liaison for Charismatic Prayer Groups.

Monsignor Miller completed seminary studies at Mount St. Mary. After ordination June 18, 1977, he was appointed associate pastor of St. Joan of Arc Church in Canton. He served on the faculty at Central Catholic High School in Canton and Ursuline High School and later was named associate principal at Ursuline. He was appointed vicar for Catholic Education and executive director of the Department of Pastoral and Educational Services. He served as pastor at St. Louis Church in Louisville. His most-recent assignment was as administrator of Sacred Heart Church. Monsignor Miller was a member of the diocesan Priests’ Retirement Board. He was named a Chaplain of His Holiness by Pope John Paul II.

International concert

Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Roman Catholic Church, 421 Covington St., will host Juan Munoz, violinist, and Mariel Ilusorio, pianist, in a concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. South African, Philippine and Chilean music will be featured. A pasta dinner is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The church is co-sponsoring the event with the New Music Guild of Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. There will be refreshments and a chance to meet the artists.

Choir to perform

A choir will sing at a public meeting planned by ACTION (Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods) at 2:15 p.m. Oct. 10 at New Bethel Baptist Church.

Rehearsals will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Garland Avenue at Himrod.

Messiah program

New Castle Music Club Chorus will present George Fredrich Handel’s oratorio, Messiah, at 3 p.m. Nov. 28 in First Christian Church, 21 W. Washington St., with director Harry Cunningham.

The first rehearsal will be from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Monday with other rehearsals from 7 to 9 at First Presbyterian Church, corner of North Jefferson and Falls streets.

Participants may bring their own copy of the oratorio or buy one at the church for $7.25.
