Summer is officially over and it’s time for trees to shed their leaves. But before kids can play in them, it’s time they learn about them.

The Canfield library gave its Sept. 21 Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s program an autumn theme. Kids learned about weather changes and the different colors tree leaves turn.

Because of the age group, the program focused primarily on vocabulary and discovering new words. Children’s librarian Jan Scott-Luoma encouraged parents to introduce their kids to new words and specific names of items each day.

Children listened to books about the current season and learned what happens to a tree’s leaves in autumn and the sounds they make when stepped on. To end the story time, each child participated in a craft session where they made a scarecrow.

The next Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. For information, visit www.libraryvisit.org.
