A surprise visit at North Elementary was caught on camera by 21 WFMJ for one teacher’s outstanding classroom performance.

Second-grade teacher Cheryl Saculla was surprised Sept. 23 with balloons from WFMJ Today’s Mark Monstrola for being named the week’s Giant Eagle Class Act.

A teacher, nominated by students, colleagues or parents, is profiled each week by WFMJ Today for going above and beyond their duties as an educator.

“I am very honored to receive this award, but I feel like it’s everybody’s award,” Saculla said. “It’s a team effort and there isn’t a teacher here that doesn’t deserve it.”

Saculla has been teaching in the Poland school system for 30 years. This was her first time receiving the Class Act award.

Second-grader Anthony Weimer and mother, Lisa, nominated Saculla for the recognition. Lisa said her eldest son, Alex, had Saculla as a teacher and she was impressed with her involvement and caring nature.

Her youngest son, Anthony, has her this year and Lisa said she didn’t want another year to pass without Saculla’s hard work being recognized.

“She has patience and grace that is second to none,” Lisa said. “I believe she is a truly genuine person.”
