Sometimes, it’s OK to talk in the library.

Poland library hosted The Conversation Salon, a group that meets once a month to converse for two hours about anything and everything. Founded five years ago by Joan Reid and husband, Charles, the group averages 10 to 12 regular attendees.

These intellectuals talk about subjects ranging from early ballot voting and childhood hobbies to bird migrations and bat colonies. Reid said there is no set agenda or list of topics they follow.

“We just talk about whatever we feel like talking about,” she said.

One member, who owns a 100-year old home in Canfield, said black squirrels are literally eating her home. She was surprised by how aggressive they are.

“They just love the taste of the historic wood,” she shared with the group. “They took a bite right out of my porch.”

The Conversation Salon is held the fourth Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. until noon and is open to the public. The next gathering will be Oct. 28.
