Conn. attorney: 2 home-invasion suspects at fault
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A prosecutor has told a Connecticut jury that both suspects in a deadly home invasion are equally responsible for the killings of a mother and her two daughters.
State’s Attorney Michael Dearington is giving his closing argument today in New Haven Superior Court, where Steven Hayes is on trial for the killings of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her 11- and 17-year-old daughters.
The defense’s closing argument is to follow. Its case during testimony largely focused on the role of the other defendant, Joshua Komisarjevsky, who awaits trial.
Dearington called the crimes a “joint venture.”
Jurors are expected to begin deliberations next week.
Both defendants face the possibility of the death penalty if convicted.
