Canfield boys maintain perfect record

Canfield

The Canfield High boys soccer team remains unbeaten after a 2-1 victory over rival Poland on Thursday night.

The victory puts the Cardinals at 10-0 on the year.

Canfield’s goals were scored by Mike DeRose and P.J. Stickle, and were assisted by Tony El Hayek and Tommy Yankush. Goalkeeper Mike Thomas had four saves.

Poland’s goal came off the foot of Dan Hunt, with an assist by Kevin Krumpak. Goalie Alex Magni had 12 saves.

Fitch 5, Canton MCKINLEY 0

Austintown

The Falcons turned a 2-0 halftime lead into a 5-0 shutout of their Federal League rivals.

A hat trick by junior Trevor Yacovone, and goals by Mike Shaffer and Nate Bowlen helped the Falcons improve to a 6-4-1 record. Five different players were credited with an assist. They were: Yacovona, Shaffer, Joe Soriano, Ken Kilpatrick and Corey Spencer.

Goalkeepers Tim Smith and Joey Addington had seven and 11 saves, respectively.

Lakeview 6, Liberty 1

Liberty

Five players scored for the Bulldogs (5-5-1) and goalkeeper Alex Rosowicz had only one save.

Scoring for Lakeview were Matt Black, Colton Ainsley, Jake Colbrunn, Evan Olbrych and Jake Rowe. Thomas Adair also had a save.

Noah Persson scored the sole goal for the Leopards, who fell to 0-9-1.

Howland 3, Niles 0

Howland

Joe Law turned a penalty kick into a goal, and scored a second time while Benji Rush also put one in the net.

Assisting the goals were Chris McClearn and Brad Fields. Goalie Robert Daniels had four saves.

Niles goalie Brennan Lykinns had eight saves.

Girls

Badger 3, Py. Valley 1

ANDOVER

Tiffany Helmuth scored two goals for the Braves (4-7-1) and Jennilyn Kumpe had the other.

Teammates Kayleen Meardith and Angilique Armstrong had the assists. Megan Hunkus had nine saves in goal.

The Lakers scored on a cross to Samantha Felix by Nicole Virosick. Lauren Seman had 10 saves.

Maplewood 4, Yo. Christian 2

Youngstown

Marianne Brown scored three goals, and Natalie Rink added another for the Rockets.

Rashida Strozier and Annie Mineo scored for the Eagles.
