Schwebel honored

YOUNGSTOWN

Schwebel Baking Co. recently was awarded the Best Premium Bun Gold Cup Annual Trophy in recognition of its bread buns. This is the fourth-consecutive year that Schwebel’s has taken home the award, bestowed by Chicago-based baking cooperative The Long Co.

More than 70 wholesale bakeries sent premium bread samples to The Long Co., which rates the buns for qualities such as crust thickness and color, interior grain and uniformity of cell structure, flavor and aroma and general eating qualities.

The Schwebel’s bakery in Hebron, Ohio, ranked highest in the bun category, scoring 95.89 out of 100 possible points. Schwebel’s Youngstown plant was third with 95.05 points. Winners receive a traveling trophy to display in their bakery for one year.

Recruiting event

BOARDMAN

The Mahoning County One-Stop will host a recruiting event and open interviews for Comfort Keepers on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the employment agency’s office, 141 Boardman-Canfield Road. Area residents interested in part-time employment as home-health aides are encouraged to attend. Shifts are available at locations in Youngstown, Warren, East Palestine, East Liverpool, Salem, Damascus and East Rochester.

Income-tax seminar

CANFIELD

The Mahoning Valley Accounting Society will host a seminar on individual income taxes Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St. The workshop will give an annual update on federal taxes and laws for individuals preparing tax returns. The seminar is designed for certified public accountants, tax preparers, enrolled agents and financial professionals but is open to the public.

The cost of the event is $199 for accounting-society members and $229 for non-members. Lunch is included.

Auto-insurance help

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Department of Insurance has launched a new online tool to educate and assist Ohioans with their auto insurance.

The Auto Insurance Sample Premium Calculator can be used to compare sample premium quotes provided by participating insurance companies and obtain contact information for these companies.

The service also features educational links and information to help consumers research insurance companies and find insurance that meets their specific needs. The calculator is available at www.insurance.ohio.gov.

Gas prices decline

The national average for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline was $2.857 on Monday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service.

That’s about 1.5 cents lower than it was a week ago but about 23 cents higher than a year ago.
