NY mayor: I never assaulted my wife, she beat me

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A suburban New York mayor on trial for domestic violence is denying he ever assaulted his wife and says she was the one who regularly attacked him.

White Plains Mayor Adam Bradley testified today that his wife, Fumiko, often kicked, punched and pushed him. He said he never responded physically.

The mayor is charged with slamming a door on his wife's fingers, throwing hot tea at her, and other crimes. He has pleaded not guilty.

Under cross-examination, Bradley said he never called police on his wife because he was intent on keeping their family together. The Bradleys have two young daughters and are now divorcing.

Bradley, a Democrat, became mayor in January and was arrested in February.
