Falcons, Tigers earn top honors

Austintown Fitch football players Demitrious Davis and Steve Zaborsky, and Howland’s Cody Reesman and Chris McClearn have been selected first team all-Ohioans.
On Monday, the Associated Press released the 2010 All-Ohio teams for Divisions I and II. The Division III and IV teams will be announced today.
Davis, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound junior, quarterbacked the Falcons to the Federal League title, a 9-1 regular-season record and a playoff victory.
Protecting him on the offensive line was Zaborsky, a 6-2, 225-pound senior who has committed to Youngstown State University.
Their teammate, linebacker Will Mahone, was named to the second-team defensive squad. Also on the second team was Boardman’s end Dayne Hammond.
Fitch had two players qualify for special team status: Shane Stevens and Cam Patterson. Also qualifying for that list were Warren Harding’s Demond Hymes and Boardman’s Carmen Tarantino.
In Div. II, McClearn, a 5-10, 170-pound senior, was selected as punter while Reesman, a 6-0, 280-pound senior, was picked as a defensive lineman.
Their Tigers went undefeated in the regular season to win the All-American Conference Red Tier. They also won a playoff game before losing to Mentor Lake Catholic in the second round.
Howland offensive lineman Anthony Stanko, a 6-5, 290-pound junior, made the second team while running back De’Veon Smith (5-11, 215) was named to the third team. Joining Smith were Howland defensive back Kenny Pozega and Canfield linebacker Dante DeLorenzo. Receiving notice on the Special Mention list were East’s Mike Thomas, Howland’s Andy Davis and Canfield’s Jordan Italiano.
Huber Heights Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller, an Ohio State recruit, was named the Div. I offensive player of the year. Springfield linebacker Trey DePriest was the defensive player of the year while Lakewood St. Edward’s Rick Finotti and Hamilton’s Bob Jacob shared coach of the year honors.
In Div. II, Cincinnati Winton Woods running back Aaron Kemper was named offensive player of the year while three linemen shared the defensive honor (Cincinnati Mt. Healthy’s Joel Heath, Mentor Lake Catholic’s Chase Hounshell and Holland Springfield’s Kevin Williams).
Sharing the coach of the year honors are Columbus Hamilton Township’s Nate Hillerich, Winton Woods’ Andre Parker, Sandusky’s Mike Franklin and Wapakoneta’s Doug Frye,
