ST. LOUIS

Youngstown State wide receiver Dominique Barnes was the lone Penguin named to the first team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference on Monday.

Eight other YSU players were named to the team.

YSU’s five second-team selections were tailback Jamaine Cook, offensive guard/tackle Bobby Coates, placekicker Stephen Blose, cornerback Brandian Ross and defensive tackle Torrance Nicholson.

Offensive guard Eric Rodemoyer, linebacker John Sasson and punter Nick Liste were named honorable mention.

Barnes gives YSU a first-team wide receiver for the second consecutive season (Donald Jones in 2009).

In 2010, Barnes had career highs in receptions with 67 for a career-best 911 yards. He caught a pass in a school record 34 consecutive games in his YSU career.

Barnes caught 168 passes for 2,062 yards and 15 touchdowns during his career.

Cook rushed for 1,276 yards on 241 carries and scored 11 touchdowns.

Blose made 12-of-14 field-goal attempts, including his last 11, while going 38-of-40 on PATs.

Coates started the first seven games of the year at right guard and the final four at right tackle.

Ross led the team with three interceptions and he had 60 tackles.

Nicholson was named to the team for the second time. He was honorable-mention in 2007 as a freshman.

Rodemoyer, a second-team pick in 2009, Rodemoyer started all 11 games at left guard.

Liste ranked third in league games in punting average and Sasson led the Penguins in tackles with 89.

Matt Barr of Western Illinois was named MVFC offensive player of the year, and linebacker Kyle Glazier of Western Illinois was named defensive player of the year.

Trent Miles of Indiana State was named “Bruce Craddock” coach of the year.
