Life in prison for Auto Zone killer

The 27-year-old city man convicted of killing a store clerk at the East Side Auto Zone store in 2006 will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Melvin T. Dixon, of Devon Avenue, had been found guilty in late October of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery with a gun specification in the courtroom of Judge Lou D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas court. The charges are related to the death of Edward Agee, 52, of Star Street.

Judge D’Apolito, Monday, sentenced Dixon to life without parole for the aggravated murder, 10 years in prison for the aggravated robbery, five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a gun, and three years in prison for using a gun in the crime.

The sentence came down following impassioned words from Agee’s daughter to the court.
