Fire destroys bar

MERCER, PA

The Jacks R Wild bar on Route 62 in Jefferson Township was destroyed in a fire, according to The Vindicator’s news partner 21 WFMJ-TV. The bar caught fire shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. Eight people were inside. No one was hurt, according to reports. The fire was so intense that the road was closed while tanker trucks were brought in. The Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department could not be reached Sunday.

Crash topples pole

BAZETTA

A one-car crash that toppled a light pole closed state Route 305 from 10:30 a.m. until just after 7 p.m. Sunday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The crash happened between North Park and Bazetta roads, the patrol said. No one was injured.

Ceramic art show

SHARON, PA.

Penn State Shenango will present “Journeys in Clay,” a ceramic art show, Friday through Dec. 9 in the campus’ art gallery in Lecture Hall Room 222. A catered reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 9. The event is free. Participating in the art show are students from Christian Kuharik’s independent-studies ceramic-art class.

Tax reminder

NEW CASTLE, PA

It’s time for Lawrence County residents to pay their taxes, says the Lawrence County treasurer’s office. Tax- reminder postcards will be mailed out by next Monday. Residents’ 2010 taxes must be paid by Dec. 30 or their bills will be turned over to the Lawrence County tax claim. They will incur interest and penalties, said Treasurer Richard Rapone. The county government center will be closed Dec. 31.

Christmas auction

NEW SPRINGFIELD

VFW Triangle Post 2799 invites the public to its Christmas Auction from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Springfield High School, 11333 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road. Toys, electronics and miscellaneous items will be featured. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Proceeds will be used for the post’s scholarship program.

Gift wrapping

The Youngstown Jewish Community Center, 5050 Gypsy Lane, is inviting volunteers to join volunteers from the center and from several area high schools and take part in its 14th annual Gift Wrap Fundraiser at Southern Park Mall. Shifts will be available between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Dec. 18 through 24. The wrapping station is directly across from Macy’s near Buffalo Wild Wings. All gifts will be wrapped for a donation, and boxes will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the JCC scholarships and provide services to families in the community.
