Senior center beefs up December programming

Several new activities and services will be starting in December at the Austintown Senior Center located at 100 Westchester Drive.

Mahoning County coordinator for the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program Carole Moore will counsel seniors on Medicare insurance options every Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., starting Dec. 6.

Seniors can visit the center beforehand to sign up for no-cost appointments with Moore who will answer questions and provide information on Medicare coverage and insurance and prescription plans.

Celtic Healthcare will provide free blood pressure checks every Monday at the center from 10 a.m. to noon.

Yoga, line dance and walking exercise classes are now forming. Seniors can sign up for these and other activities at the table near the front entrance to the senior center.

A day trip is planned for Dec. 8 by van from the senior center to White House Fruit Farm, an art museum and the Hartville Kitchen. Space is limited to 13 passengers and those interested must sign up at the center.

Finally, the half-hour television show “Senior Focus,” broadcast on Austintown Community Television Channel 19 and Armstrong Cable Channel 20, is now taping at the center.

Seniors are welcome to join the audience. Upcoming guests include Carol Moore and Kristen Taylor Nov. 19 at noon.
