YOUNGSTOWN

A man shot three times in a quiet Boardman neighborhood, then charged with two felony drug counts has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Alynn S. Grant, 32, of Liberty Road, appeared this week before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Grant had been indicted in September on charges of trafficking in marijuana and trafficking in cocaine with forfeiture specifications for a Cadillac and $13,000.

Grant, who had been shot once in the leg and twice in the back in April, appeared in court wearing a leg brace that he told the court was for a shattered bone. He also said he is taking prescription pain pills to handle the pain associated with his wounds.

In the plea agreement, Grant pleaded no contest and was found guilty of trafficking in drugs. Prosecutors moved to remove the remaining drug charge and forfeiture of the car from the indictment. Grant must still forfeit the $13,000.

Prosecutors, in the plea agreement, have recommended probation for Grant, but he could be facing up to five years in prison. He will be sentenced Jan. 28.

Grant told police he pulled into a driveway in the 6500 block of Mill Creek Boulevard and saw Casimiro Ellis, 29, of East Avondale Avenue, walking toward him with a gun just before Grant was shot.

Ellis was arrested a week later in Warren on an attempted-murder charge, which is still pending before Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Police said the shooting was related to a woman who once shared the Mill Creek Boulevard residence with Grant. She and Grant had a relationship, but it was ending because of domestic issues, and she was in a relationship with Ellis when the shooting occurred, police said.

Ellis had been released from prison in 2009 after serving 10 years on a voluntary-manslaughter charge. He was convicted in 2000 in the shooting death of Karl Green.

Ellis is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 24 for the shooting of Grant.
