Students in the Health Tech Prep program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center traveled to the OSBA Capital Conference Nov. 8 to administer blood pressure screenings.
During the day they performed more than 150 blood pressure checks. The screenings offer a chance for students to get out in the community and provide a valuable service. It’s also a chance to hone their skills and gain experience interacting with patients.
But it was one patient from last year that made this year’s event memorable.
Last year, the students advised one patient to visit his physician because of the results of his blood pressure screenings. Due to the students’ diligence, the patient is now taking medication to control his blood pressure and he credits the MCCTC students with helping to save his life.
Students attending the trip were Tiirini Blakely (Struthers), Chris Duncan (Western Reserve), Heather Johnson (Fitch), Vanessa Morales (Campbell), Erica Ortiz (Struthers) and Jessica Tindell (Springfield).
