CANFIELD

Cats and dogs had their own Black Friday at Angels for Animals.

While many post-Thanksgiving shoppers were looking for merchandise, some people were looking for pets.

Angels hosted a Black Friday Cat and Dog Adoption Sale that ran for eight hours starting at noon, complete with discounts.

Kelly Witherstine, who oversees cats for Angels for Animals, said the offer was a good one.

The offer for the animals already at the shelter started at $50 for a cat 6 months old or older. Kittens could be adopted for $70. That included spaying or neutering, flea treatment, deworming, checking the animal’s booster shots, tests for feline AIDS and an identification microchip that alone normally costs $25.

“It’s a big discount,” Witherstine said.

Alyssa Ellison, who oversees dogs for Angels for Animals, said some people misread the notice about the time and showed up early. They came back.

Black Friday is not the only program provided by Angels. In February, it will travel throughout the area to spay or neuter 100 cats and 50 dogs. Bringing the surgery to the communities will reduce the costs to owners.

Ellison said four cats with homes and two dogs had gone through the surgery in the first four hours Friday. She said it appeared the program would be a success.

Angels for Animals is located at 4950 state Route 165, Canfield Township. For more information, go to www.angelsforanimals.org or call 330-549-1111.
