Argus Lodge 545, F&AM, honored two longtime members, Robert James Mayerchak of Boardman and Bradford Marshall, during a meeting on Oct. 22 at the lodge in Canfield.

Each received a Mason of the Year award in recognition of his diligent service to the lodge.

Mayerchak has been an active member of the lodge for 43 years and currently choreographs the lights and soundboard at the lodge.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mayerchak served as a corporal during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. After that he studied art at Youngstown State University and, with the help of Wally Moore, a past master of Argus Lodge, became a television camera operator and studio production assistant at WKBN-TV, where he designed and constructed studio sets.

He met his wife, Sue, at WKBN, where she was a radio program secretary. They were married June 14, 1959, and have a son and two daughters.

He left WKBN in the early 1960s and retired as a mechanic in 1995 to devote his time to gardening, the study of U.S. Civil War and World War II, working on a Model A Ford.

Marshall, who served the lodge by volunteering countless hours to the organization and was also an active member of the Youngstown Shrine Club, was honored posthumously. His award was accepted by his parents, Larry and Georgia Marshall.

Marshall had always been a giving person, and through his contributions as an organ donor, another person will see again and burn victims will be healed.

Donations collected in his name have provided endowments for two of his friends.
