Poland lighting celebration is Dec. 4

POLAND

With the holiday season upon the village, one group wants to deck town hall with boughs of holly — and lights.

Organizers say they hope the second annual Lighting of the Village Christmas Celebration draws even more people than the 350 who attended last year.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at Village Hall, 308 S. Main St. and more than 400 luminaries will line Poland’s downtown streets.

“So many people say it’s like Dickensian atmosphere,” said Wilma Brumbaugh of the Poland Jr. Women’s Club, which organizes the celebration.

The club is a non-profit organization that coordinates events, such as the Halloween Parade and Easter Egg Hunt, and provides scholarships for area students.

The Poland Seminary High School choir will perform as holiday lights are switched on at Peterson Park, on the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and state Route 616 and 170, and the village hall.
