Phantoms shave Ice, 2-1

Quinn Smith and Ty Loney scored goals as the Youngstown Phantoms posted their first win on home ice in more than a month.

The goals by Smith and Loney staked the Phantoms (6-10-1, 13 points) to a two-goal lead in the second period, and they hung on for a 2-1 victory over the Indiana Ice on Wednesday at the Covelli Centre.

John Fritsche and Mike Ambrosia earned assists on Quinn’s first-period goal. Loney’s tally in the second period was unassisted.

Phantoms goaltender Matt O’Connor made 32 saves to record his sixth victory. Ice goalie Casey DeSmith stopped 28 shots.

The Ice stopped the Phantoms on all five of their power-play attempts. Indiana was 1-for-6 on the power play.

The Phantoms’ next game will be Saturday in Chicago against the Steel.
