A man was arrested after police discovered him holding a loaded gun to his live-in girlfriend’s head.
Police said they were called at 2:52 a.m. Saturday to a home on Moore Street. The victim’s son told police his mother and her boyfriend, James Allen Wire, 52, had been arguing for several hours.
The son, who called from an upstairs bedroom, told police later that he did not want to confront Wire, a police report says.
Police could hear the couple arguing as they walked up the driveway, the report says. They looked through a window and saw the victim sitting in the dining room. Wire was standing nearby pressing a .25-caliber handgun to her head, it says.
When Wire saw police through the window, he took the magazine from the gun and threw the gun on the floor. As he was letting police in, they handcuffed him.
Police said they could smell “a strong odor” of alcohol on Wire’s breath.
He was taken to the police station.
Wire was arraigned Monday morning in Struthers Municipal Court on a domestic-violence charge. He pleaded not guilty and was free on $100, or 10 percent of $1,000 bond. His trial is set for 10 a.m. March 16.
