Mike Commodore also scored for Columbus (13-6-0), off to the best start in franchise history and playing its first game since a record-setting road trip.

Johan Hedberg made 30 saves for his 15th career shutout and the struggling New Jersey Devils stunned the NHL-leading Washington Capitals. Jason Arnott scored twice while rookie Mattias Tedenby and Patrik Elias each had a goal and an assist for the Devils.

PHILADELPHIA

James van Riemsdyk snapped a third-period tie with his first goal of the season. Claude Giroux and Ville Leino also scored for the Flyers.

Steven Stamkos got his NHL-leading 20th goal of the season to help Tampa Bay.

OTTAWA

Former Penguin Alex Kovalev got his 1,000th career point when he scored on a power play midway through the first period and assisted on Jason Spezza’s go-ahead goal in the third for Ottawa. Kovalev became the 76th NHL player to reach the 1,000-point milestone with his sixth goal 10 minutes in. Maple Leafs 4, Stars 1

TORONTO

Nikolai Kulemin scored two goals for Toronto. Tyler Bozak and Kris Versteeg had the other goals for the Maple Leafs (8-9-3), who got 21 saves from Jonas Gustavsson.

Rangers 2, Flames 1

NEW YORK

Brian Boyle and Dan Girardi scored second-period goals and backup Martin Biron made 31 saves to lift the New York Rangers over the slumping Calgary Flames.

Calgary captain Jarome Iginla stayed hot by scoring his sixth goal in three games — and 450th in the NHL — but it wasn’t enough. The Flames lost for the ninth time in 11 games (2-8-1).
