Autopsy planned for boy who fell at Staples Center

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy is planned Tuesday for a 2-year-old boy who plunged to his death from a skybox at Staples Center arena in downtown Los Angeles.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says the body of Lucas Tang will be examined to determine the cause of death, but results probably won’t be released until Wednesday.

Authorities say the Garden Grove boy was with his family after a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game Sunday night when he got over a glass safety barrier and plunged about 30 feet into the seats below. He died later at a hospital.

Staples owner AEG has not said exactly how high the barrier is, but a city building and safety spokesman says the arena complies with codes requiring barriers to be at least 26 inches high.
