One Church-One Child was created in the early 1980s in Chicago by the Rev. George Clements and was the centerpiece of Saturday’s National Adoption Awareness program at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Youngstown’s North Side. Some facts about the local program:

Incorporates the leadership of the religious community with the experience and resources of an adoption agency to secure homes for children out of their natural homes.

Educates the community regarding the adoption process and dispels myths.

Makes appeals for adoptive families from the pulpit and uses other church resources.

Supports adoptive families after placement.

Collects pertinent information about potential adoptive families and passes it to the appropriate agency.

Coordinates the planning of yearly recruitment activity.
