Eagle awards
Two members of Troop 80, Boy Scouts of America, chartered to Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, North Lima, have earned their Eagle Scout awards.
They are Mason Keshock, son of Richard and Linda Keshock and Donovan Shimer, son of Patricia and Frederick Shimer, all of North Lima. Their scoutmaster is Tod Winkel.
Keshock joined Cub Scout Pack 80 in 1999. He then joined Troop 80 in 2002 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, librarian and junior assistant scoutmaster.
While a member of Troop 80, Keshock was elected to the Order of the Arrow and is an Ordeal member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56. He has earned 22 merit badges.
For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction and installation of a split-rail fence at the Beaver Nature Preserve entrance. Included in the project was coordination of 15 Scouts and adults in the installation of the fence.
He is a senior at South Range High School, where he is a four-year letterman in the marching band. He is a volunteer at Assumption Village and attends St. Jude Catholic Church, where he serves as usher/greeter.
Shimer has been involved in Scouting since September 1999. He has earned his Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Packs 199 and 302 in Illinois before moving to Pack 116 in North Lima. He joined Troop 80 in 2003 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster, librarian and junior assistant scoutmaster.
While a member of Troop 80, Shimer was elected to the Order of the Arrow and is an Ordeal member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56. He has earned a total 23 merit badges.
For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the reconstruction of the Beaver Nature Preserve entrance sign. Included in the project were sign replacement and landscaping around the area.
Shimer is a senior at South Range High School, where he is on the varsity football team. He also is a member of the high school choir and participates in the annual high-school play.
STATE PATROL
Troopers of the year
Four men with local ties have been selected as Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers of the year at their respective posts.
They are Daniel Dubelko, Nathan H. Krug, Timothy S. Dobbins and Barry Thompson.
They are all in contention for State Trooper of the Year, which will be announced at a later date.
Dubelko, 29, serves at the Warren Post. He also was selected as the District 4 Trooper of the Year, which includes the Warren, Chardon, Ashtabula, Ravenna, Canfield and Lisbon posts. He joined the patrol in 2006 and has served at the Warren Post since 2008 and is originally from Kinsman.
Krug, 30, serves at the patrol’s Ravenna post. He joined the patrol in 2005 and has served at the Lima and Hiram posts. Originally from Alliance and a graduate of United Local High School, he attended Stark Technical College. He lives in Alliance and is engaged to be married next year to his fianc e, Molly Faith.
Dobbins, 26, serves at the patrol’s Canfield post. He joined the patrol in 2007. He lives in Poland with his wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Cameron.
Thompson is stationed at the patrol’s Lisbon post. He is a 1996 graduate of Lisbon’s David Anderson High School and joined the patrol in 1998. He previously worked at the Wooster and Canfield posts.
