Family hosts dinner to mark Franklins’ 50th

Mr. and Mrs. Neil Franklin of Girard were honored on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary during a family dinner celebration at Olive Garden in Niles.

Hosts for the event were their children, Diane New of Axton, Va., and Bruce Franklin and Margaret Smith of Girard, and their grandchildren, John New of Bassett, Va.; Allison Franklin of Cleveland; and Joshua Hodge and Jeremy Smith, both of Girard. A son, Glenn D. Franklin, died in 1986.

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown was the setting on Nov. 18, 1950, as Mr. Franklin and the former Margaret Louise Bush were united in marriage.

Mrs. Franklin retired as a cafeteria supervisor from the Girard High School System and is a part-time employee in the cafeteria at Hillside Rehabilitation Center in Howland. She is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church Choir, Musica Sacra and Stambaugh Symphony Choir.

Mr. Franklin worked 30 years at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. prior to retiring in 1980.
