Winterfest dance planned for Dec. 1 at country club

The 10th annual special-needs Winterfest dance is set for Dec. 1.

The dance will run from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mahoning Country Club, 710 Liberty St. East SE, Girard.

There is no cost to students to attend this year. The dance is open to special-needs high school students in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

The event is an opportunity for students with multiple, orthopedic and/or developmental disabilities to have fun and socialize with their peers from other communities.

Drop-off time is 4:30 to 5 p.m. with dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. and dancing from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Snow Prince and Snow Princess will be crowned toward the end of the dance.

The country club is large enough to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers and other devices.

A professional photographer will be there to take pictures and Santa and his elves and Mrs. Claus will also make an appearance.

The dance will be chaperoned by staff, security and student helpers. Parents aren’t permitted to stay for the dance.

The dress is semiformal for the students. They are asked not to wear sweat pants, sweat shirts, jeans, shorts, school uniforms or tennis shoes.

The boys may wear suits, shirts and ties, dress shirts, jerseys or sweaters and dress pants.

The girls may wear any type of dress, dress pants or skirts and a blouse or sweater.
