Village holiday lighting set for Dec. 4

Poland’s second annual Lighting of the Village Christmas Celebration is set for Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in downtown Poland. Carols and music, provided by the Poland Seminary High School, will begin at the Town Hall on Main Street at 6 p.m., followed by the lighting of Petersen Park, located at the intersection of Route 224 and state Routes 616 and 170.

Santa will arrive at the Town Hall via Western Reserve Joint Fire District fire truck at 6:30 p.m. and will be available for visits with the children throughout the evening.

Cookies and hot cocoa will be available and over 450 luminaries will line the village green and sidewalks along Main Street.

The highlight of the evening will be the lighting of the village trees at 7 p.m.

The Poland Junior Women’s Club is coordinating the event with help from Poland Village and other community organizations such as Town One Streetscapes, who maintains Petersen Park.

The club is now in the planning stages and will be soliciting community businesses and other organizations for donations and assistance the night of the event.

An estimated 300 people attended last year’s celebration and organizers hope to draw an even bigger crowd this year. The celebration will continue to grow as funds allow and local organizations and community members interested in donating money or time are encouraged to contact event coordinators Jeannette Albert at 330-757-2488 or Linda Christ at 330-707-1522.
