MCCTC students give screenings
MCCTC students give screenings
canfield
Students in the Health Tech Prep program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center traveled to the Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference last week to administer blood-pressure screenings.
During the day, they performed more than 150 blood-pressure checks. The screenings offer a chance for students to go into the community and provide a valuable service. It’s also a chance to hone their skills and gain experience interacting with patients.
But it was one patient from last year that made this year’s event memorable. Last year, students advised one patient to visit his physician because of the results of his blood-pressure screenings. Due to the students’ diligence, the patient is now taking medication to control his blood pressure and he credits the MCCTC students with helping to save his life.
Students attending the trip were Tiirini Blakely and Erica Ortiz, both of Struthers, Chris Duncan of Western Reserve, Heather Johnson of Austintown Fitch, Vanessa Morales of Campbell and Jessica Tindell of Springfield.
