Girard man faces aggravated burglary charge

Staff report

LORDSTOWN

An aggravated burglary charge has been filed in Newton Falls Municipal Court against Gregory Bass, 24, of St. Clair Street, Girard, who was arrested Thursday at his home.

Lordstown police said they believe Bass broke into a house on Hallock Young Road on Oct. 29, taking a computer, cash, firearm and jewelry.

Police believe Bass is also the man who knocked on doors in Lordstown at about noon that day, about an hour before the burglary was reported, trying to get lawn-mowing jobs.

Similar reports were received in North Jackson involving a man of the same description and type of car, Lordstown police said.

Bass is in the Trumbull County jail and is expected to be arraigned Monday. If convicted, he could spend up to 10 years in prison.

Police were assisted by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority and the U.S. Marshal’s Service during Bass’ arrest.

Police ask anyone who may have seen a man inquiring about lawn care at around that same time to call police to report it.

Police are also trying to identify the owner of a ring recovered in the Bass investigation, said Detective Chris Bordonaro of the Lordstown Police Department.
