Associated Neighbors Centers to get grant

Associated Neighbors Centers in Youngstown is receiving $10,000 from the state attorney general’s office to start a senior fitness program to promote exercise.

The attorney general’s office is providing about $200,000 to 29 programs statewide to help senior citizens, the homeless, children and the mentally ill. The money comes from fines collected for bingo violations.

Organizations will receive between $2,000 and $10,000 each. More than 1,000 programs applied.

Besides Associated Neighbors, the only Mahoning Valley organization to receive funding from this program is Family and Community Services of Columbiana County.

It is receiving $4,800 to provide personal hygiene and cleaning products for families who use the organization’s food pantry.
