WARREN

Police say a 19-year-old Oak Street Southwest man assaulted a police officer, who went to a house on Miller Street Southwest to question him about an armed robbery Wednesday night.

Police charged Frank M. Smith with two counts of felonious assault and one count of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

Smith pleaded innocent to the charges Thursday morning in Warren Municipal Court and was ordered held in the Trumbull County jail without eligibility to make bond.

The owner of Pit Stop, a gas station and convenience store at 1001 Elm Road Northeast, reported that two men entered the store at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and robbed him at gunpoint, then fled north on foot.

The alleged assault on a police officer and resisting arrest took place at about 7:30 p.m., police said.

If convicted of the charges, Smith could get three years in prison.

Smith has not been charged in the robbery.
