City police are investigating a series of armed robberies in various locations across the city this week.

Police Wednesday afternoon were sent to a home in the 700 block of Brentwood Avenue to investigate a home invasion that had just taken place. A 60-year-old stroke patient was assaulted during the robbery.

According to reports, two men kicked in the front door of the home when the partially paralyzed man was home alone. The intruders are described as two black males in their early 20s.

One of the men went after the resident and forced him to the ground while the second man ransacked rooms and cut cable wires to a television set the two men later carried off. The thieves also took jewelry before running off.

Later Wednesday evening at 8:41 p.m., police were sent to the 1800 block of Goleta Avenue to investigate the robbery of a 66-year-old Coronado Avenue woman.

According to reports, the woman and a friend dropped off a third person on Tod Lane then came to a home on Goleta Avenue. Reports say the two people were getting out of the car when two black males, one carrying a gun, approached and demanded the woman’s purse, but the woman clutched the purse and hollered no. Her male friend hollered at the men and jumped toward one of them.

Reports say the men ran off, and neighbors who heard the commotion chased them. The would-be thieves jumped in a car and sped away from the area.

Police also were sent to the 200 block of Hilton Avenue just after 9 p.m. for the robbery of a 27-year-old Hilton Avenue man.

The man told police he was walking home from a corner store and was about two blocks from his home when he was approached by two black males, one carrying a gun and the other carrying a knife. The man handed the thieves $15, but the man with the knife stabbed him anyway. He was treated by an ambulance at his home.

Police also are investigating the armed robbery of another man on South Avenue on Tuesday as he was walking home from a store. The 20-year-old man told police he was leaving a store in the 3200 block of South Avenue when he was surrounded by a group of about 10 men.

According to reports, one of the men hit the victim on the head with a gun while others went through his pockets and took about $150. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
