Baldwin-Wallace pulls past Bethany

Freshman forward Kyle Payne scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace men’s basketball team defeated Bethany College, 76-71, Thursday.
Payne was joined in double figures for the Yellow Jackets (1-1) by senior guard Zane Meeder, who scored scored 15 of 18 points in the second half.
Junior forward British Alexander had 18 points and six rebounds for the Bison (1-1), while senior guard Dustin Opalka (Lakeview) had nine points.

Evan Smotrycz scored 14 points and Jordan Morgan added 12 to lead Michigan.
The Wolverines led 28-27 late in the first half when Luke Kraus appeared headed for an easy Bowling Green layup, but Michigan’s Zack Novak came sprinting back to block the shot from behind. Matt Vogrich made a 3-pointer seconds later for the Wolverines, who went on a 22-5 run that lasted well into the second half.

Ryan Broekhoff had 18 points, leading seven Valparaiso players in double figures. Broekhoff also had a game-high nine rebounds against the NAIA school.
